Camel Festival

The Art and Craft Department of Rajasthan Tourism organizes Camel Festival in Bikaner usually on Jan 21 and Jan 22 which attracts a whopping number of tourists especially foreign nationals who enjoy every bit of the two day long festival . The Camel festival is a way of acknowleding the importance of camels that form the core part of the daily lifestyle of the quaint town . The serene town adorning a colourful get up vibrates with the footsteps and the joyful noises of the visitors. The festival begins with the procession of nicely adorned camels.

The prime attractions of this colourful festival are camel tug-of- war, best-dressed camel competion, camel rides, camel races, camel pageant where in the beautifully embellished camels, their jewellery are displayed by the owners and camel dances are accompanied by folk dance and music. Visitors relish tea and sweets prepared by the milk of camel.

The desert town looks magical when the ambience ehoes with heavenly fire dances where the women in their colurful skirt display 'swirling dances'. The lanky camels with their colourful get up, their jingling anklets cast a magical spell over the visitors. The finale is the highlight that ends with lovely display of fireworks giving a bridal look to the desert city.

Karni Mata Fair

Held in April/ May and October/ November, the Karni Mata Fair is celebrated on the ninth day of the Navratri. It is said that Karni Mata, led a life of austerity and dedicated her entire life in serving the down trodden and underpriviledged. The festival celebrates the greatness and kindness of Karni Mata, who is worshipped by the inhabitants as benefactor deity.
